But we also wanted to provide online mentoring for moms, resourceful articles …

Merry Christmas from the MOMs at The MOM Initiative

I LOVE watching the movie Elf!  It’s one of those movies that has given our family an arsenal of cute quotes to draw from at random.  Quotes like, “Smiling is my favorite!”     And, “There’s room for everyone on the Nice List.”   And I love when Buddy discovers that Santa is coming to the store and shouts, “Santa’s coming! I KNOW him!”   More importantly that a cheesy, cute fairly tell, is the stunning truth that JESUS IS COMING…and I REALLY KNOW HIM!  How about you? Because the truth is, there is no Santa. Not anymore. Yes…I know …

Two Questions I Daily Ask My Husband

So often, I voice my opinions and air every single solitary thought in my head—out loud. It reminded me of those two questions I try to ask Paul daily. Two simple things I believe will RADICALLY change your marriage. Heading up to his office, I brought him a steaming cup of tea and threw my arms around his neck. “What can I do for you today?” (Question One) “Nothing. I’m fine.” He smiled. Sacrificial Love  When was the last time you asked your husband what you could do for him? I mean seriously asked him if there’s anything you …

104 Date Night Ideas instead of 50 Shades of Gray

My mother thought if she loved my father enough, he would change. He didn’t. Instead, I watched my father love my mother to the best of his broken abilities. I watched my mother become less of a woman, and I watched my heart break into millions of little pieces as my mother would clean up the glass from one of my Dad’s anger fits or hold an ice pack to a broken nose; deep down I knew this wasn’t real love or healthy.  Flash forward fifteen years later. I am raising two girls and one precious boy. My fifteen year old …

Becoming Momma K

I’m already “mom”.  Thanks to my daughter and son-in-love, I will be Momma K! The richness of the blessing of a grand son is beyond words in description. Often times words cannot convey what the heart feels. Conversation about how much we want to bless this little guy is regular between my husband and I. With sparkling eyes, the younger aunts and uncles make plans for play time with their nephew. I pray that God will bless me with a rich relationship with our grand son. Becoming Momma K is helping me become mom all over again. I’m seeing …

Don’t Ignore Infertility But Be Careful What You Say

Many of the mommies-in-waiting sharing their stories in Dear God, Why Can’t I Have a Baby? A Companion Guide for Couples on the Infertility Journey expressed the sorrowful complaint that they felt ignored by friends and family, even in the church–especially in the church. With 1 in 6 couples experiencing infertility, that’s a large part of the population ignored. You probably know someone struggling with infertility, or maybe it’s you that is struggling to be a mommy, or you know the painful misunderstood struggle of secondary infertility.   Often we ignore the infertile couple because we don’t know what to …

10 Tips for Couples Praying Together

“Bless you both,” I heard as my husband, Dave, and I opened our eyes after praying over our dinner in the Seattle airport food court. I looked up to see an elderly gentleman and his wife beaming at us from the next table. Instantly, we had something in common—God! When Dave and I acknowledged the husband’s comment, his wife gleefully added, “And I said to my husband, ‘Look they’re holding hands while they pray!’”. As we chatted with the couple, we learned that they were from Canada and waiting to board a plane to Orange County, our former home. I …

A Letter to My Child

Dear child of mine who happens to be a teenager, I know that you and I can get on each other’s nerves.  But I want you to know that I love you and that God is showing me so much about Himself, and about myself, just by you being here.  I am a better person having known you and I want you to know I am so thankful that God has put you in my life. I know that sometimes It doesn’t seem as though I am thankful.  But I am.  Please forgive me for not expressing that often enough. …
