In The Midst of Sandy Hook, He Keeps His Promises

Written by Heather Riggleman In light of the tragedy of Sandy Hook, every mother in this nation wonders where we can turn to, what can we trust when nothing seems constant? My dear little mama, we can trust God. He keeps his promises. In fact, I felt led to share an excerpt from my book because I think we all need something tangible to fill our hearts today. Blessings to you. May this devotion be the encouragement you need to face today and not question tomorrow.  He Keeps His Promises (Mama Needs A Time Out ©) As a mom, I’ve broken more than my fair …

M.O.M.s Praying for the Families of Newtown, Connecticut

(If you can’t see the video, please click this link.) What an unexplainably tragic time this is in our nation. As a ministry that primarily focuses on ministering to moms and mentors, our hearts are broken for those whose lives have been turned upside down. We are compiling a list of prayers that we are all praying for those who have lost loved ones and we will be sending those prayers to the families whose lives will never be the same. At times like this we feel helpless. Some can give financially to help those who in need. But …

Sometimes, it’s as simple as how you say hello…

I went to pick my kids up from the Kids’ Club area of the gym after I’d finished working out, when I passed the window to the room that they were in. My daughter saw me through the glass, jumped up, and waved. And when I opened the door, she was standing at the front desk, smiling. “Mommy!” she said, hugging me tight. I’d only been “gone” for an hour, but by the way she acted, you’d guess it had been a week. Her sweet greeting seriously melted my heart. And it made me think… How do I say hello …

Mom’s Day of Prayer – Blanketing Our Nation in Prayer

After reading an article in a local Christian periodical Kathy Coleman knew she had to do something about it. It was November of 1997 and with a healthy dose of fear Kathy approached her new pastor with the idea – a day set aside  for the moms, aunts, neighbors, and grandmothers of her church to join together to pray for the children in their lives. Kathy’s pastor not only told her she could have this event, but he had some ideas for her. First he gave her a name for this special day – Mom’s Day of Prayer. Then he …

Ways to Help Your Children Focus on Christ at CHRISTmas

Can you imagine if it was your birthday and a friend offered to give a birthday dinner in your honor? You pull your car up the driveway and there are lights with your husband’s name on them.  Arriving at the front door, you’re greeted with a wreath welcoming a neighbor.  When you get inside, the whole house is decorated with pictures of the host’s favorite musician.  When the birthday cake is brought out, it has someone else’s name on it. Gifts are given to another person, not you.  Happy birthday is sung with someone else’s name.  As you leave, the …

31 Days to a More Intimate Marriage

Hi sweet moms! Steph here. We’ve got a special treat for you today! We’ve got our friend, Sheila Gregoire with us and we’re talking about sex. (Yes, we’re boldly going where The M.O.M. Initiative hasn’t gone before.)  I know it’s not something you hear a lot about in Christian circles but we are thankful for Sheila’s willingness to ‘go there.’ She’s got a new book out, 31 Days to Great Sex, and we are blessed to have this interview with her to share with you! So, whether your engaged, a newly wed, or a mom who has felt too tired, …

Where are the Continuing Education Credits for Motherhood?

Don’t you wish there were Continuing Education credits for motherhood? Back in college there were classes for just about everything: Music Appreciation, English 1101, Calculus, Religion, you name it and it was there. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a college level class on Motherhood. Sure, there are classes you can take while you are pregnant, and even some awesome mommy and me type classes, but where are the classes for: bandaging up boo-boo’s, pre-pubescent anxiety, peer pressure, broken hearts, and helping your child find their identity in Christ. Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;     teach the …

I Just Want You! – 5 Tips for Parenting Teens

Being a teen is tough. It’s that limbo place between being a child and being a young adult, and it’s hard to figure out where you belong. Being a parent of a teen might just be harder than being a teen. It’s hard for a mom to really know what to do during those pivotal years when they seem so independent but they don’t process life like …

Where Can I Go? The Solace of Psalm 139

I know my kids pretty well. Even before my youngest could communicate with words, he had a myriad of sounds I could easily translate. There was the whiney, fussy noise he made most often, which meant that he was hungry (that’s why it’s the sound he made most often). The scream of pain – I don’t like to hear that one, but I know it well from his toddler tumbles. The giggle that gurgles through even when he’s tired and crying but just can’t help but laugh because I’m playing peek-a-boo or giving him raspberries on the tummy. There is …

The End of the World?

IT LOOKS REALLY, REALLY BAD Once again we turn on the media and hear a new spin of an old tale, “This is it! The end of the world is here! Where can we find reliable, time proven truth to tell us exactly what the end looks like? MAYAN PROPHECY VS BIBLICAL …
