DO YOU EVER WORRY THAT YOUR CHILDREN WE STRUGGLE WITH INSECURITIES?
This week I’m sharing about insecurities on my website and couldn’t help but think about how many insecurities we develop as kids and what moms can do to help prevent those insecurities from taking root in the hearts of our children.
Insecurities can be debilitating. They hold us captive and prevent us from fulling becoming who we were created to be.
They give us a skewed view of God, ourselves and others.
Children who struggle with insecurities become adults who can never fully live out their dreams, conquer their fears or become confident or comfortable in who they are.
Mommas long for their kids to thrive, not just survive…to not allow their insecurities to define them.
So while there are a multitude of ways in which you can help your children not be laden with debilitating insecurities. Today, I want to share 3 ways to prevent insecurities in your kids.
1. Consistently fill your child’s heart with the truth of God’s Word.
Help them understand they were created by God on purpose and for a purpose. Tuck Genesis 1-3, 1 Samuel 16:7, Psalms 139, Jeremiah 1, Jeremiah 29:11-12, and Ephesians 2:10 in their heart.
Childhood can be tough. Other kids can be cruel. In their attempts to claim their own identity they crush others. When your children walk through years of taunts and trouble trying to be secure with who they are, it is the Word of God that will ground them.
When the world, the enemy and their own hearts whisper words that would their hearts, it’s the Word of God that will help them stand strong.
2. Help your children discover their own talents, abilities and passions.
God has created each of us with certain bents. Our role as mother’s is to help our children discover what makes them tick…to find out those seeds of dreams, giftedness and passions that help make them who they are.
When they learn what thrills their hearts they will discover the joy of being created by God on purpose and for a purpose. Fulfillment is found when we begin becoming who God created us to be and as you expose your children to different options, such as sports, arts, debate teams, educational opportunities, and other things, they will be drawn to that which they were created to do well.
Some people are naturally smart. Others are great artists, musicians or athletes. Some are outgoing, others are introverts. Some are natural leaders, others are great at following the lead of others.
All are created by God and for God.
Moms help their children discover who they were created to be and how they can glorify God by being that person.
3. Become their filter and their filler.
Children will hear words that will wound.
They will think things that aren’t true. They will feel feelings that will fluctuate. You have the important role of not only filtering what they hear and helping put those things in perspective, but also of filling their hearts with confident-building truths about who they are.
When your daughter curls up on her bed and begins to cry because someone told her she’s fat, or ugly, or stupid, you are her filter and her filler.
When your son comes home and runs to his room and slams the door because he made the game-losing play at the game and everyone is mad at him, you are his filter and his filler.
It’s not easy being a mom. Precious children are looking to us to help them discover how significant their little lives are and all God has in store for them.
Our children will face a whole lot in their young years. We have the chance to help them see themselves the way God does.
A masterpiece. Carefully crafted by the Creator of the universe. Loved with an everlasting love by the God who created them exactly as they are.
Perfect.
A Divine design.
What are some ways you help your children see themselves like God does? How can you help prevent your children from experiencing the devastating effects of insecurities?
