I admit it. I have trust issues.
When I’m faced with the difficulties of life, the thought have faith runs through my mind. Easier said than done, right? Or what about that sweet well-meaning friend who says in the midst of your struggle, “just have more faith.” That can be frustrating because it seems so simple to them, yet it is not easy for me to WALK OUT.
As I was praying the other day, God showed me why I have a hard time with my faith. It’s not that I can’t see the actual physical form of God, it’s that I don’t truly trust him.
You see, I was hurt a lot by my earthly father. It began when I was just a little girl. I suffered emotional and physical abuse as a child. Today, I still have a very trying relationship with my earthly father. So truly trusting a father figure is HARD.
If you’ve been hurt by someone, and most of us have, then trusting can be terrifying. It’s in the vulnerability we show to God that He truly meets us, saves us and loves us right where we are.
The key to faith is in how much we trust God.
Here are a few Bible verses to meditate on. God makes it clear that faith demands trust.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Psalm 9:10 (TLB)
10 All those who know your mercy, Lord, will count on you for help. For you have never yet forsaken those who trust in you.
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I hope these verses help you know that God promises to love us, and that He will never leave us or hurt us. These are truths you can TRUST in.
Be Blessed,
AllisonD
