When You Feel Like a Failure

Spread the love

We all feel like we have failed at something at one time or another in our lives. And that can be hard to process.

But, if we can remember that our identity lies in Christ and not in the things of this world, we really do ourselves a favor. Our identity is not in being the best at something, in our job, or in another person. Our identity lies squarely in who God says we are.

We also need to acknowledge that these failure feelings are not from God. The devil would like to keep us in a state of feeling less than for as long as possible. So look up instead!

Here are a few tips to combat the feel-like-a-failure blues.

  1. First remember that God knows better than we do. Our pride and self-righteousness can keep us from the wisdom God has for us instead. “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil” (Proverbs 3:7 NIV).
  2. God can tackle any sin we give Him and redeem it for His glory. Really He can! Just try it… “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 NLT).
  3. Remember that you do have an enemy, and he wants to destroy you. Your enemy is never another person. It is the devil. So fight back through prayer and scripture memorization. God is more powerful than the devil and promises an abundant life in Him. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10 ESV).
  4. God has given us salvation through His son’s death on the cross. There is NO greater gift. God also tells us how to fight back when the feelings of failure come. Our sword is the word of God. “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17 NIV).
  5. God loves us so much that He sent His son to take on our sins. There is no sin that God can’t take from you. But the key is in your own REPENTANCE. You must confess in your heart and ask for forgiveness. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 ESV).

Giving thanks to God for who He says you are every single day can really help too. Stay in a state of thankfulness instead of the woe-is-me attitude.

I hope this gave you some tools to fight the feel-like-a-failure blues!

Be Blessed,
