Adjusting to life with four kids has been hard. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in months. There have been days when I haven’t slept, haven’t had my coffee, haven’t showered, and haven’t homeschooled.
Even as I write this blog, I have a nursing infant attached to my bosom and he won’t let go… and we are under the threat of a severe snowstorm. We are hunkered down and stir crazy.
With all that is going on, there are ample opportunities to become frustrated and short with my children, and I have admittedly taken some of them. It is during these times that it is imperative to remember what the Lord says about how I am to think about my children.
He lovingly reminds us in Psalm 127:3-5,
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
What you and I must remember in the throes of motherhood is to place our faith in God, and how He says we are to view our children. Let us ask ourselves the hard questions:
Am I subscribing to the thoughts of society, or am I choosing to believe what the Lord has said in His word?
Do I truly believe that my children are a gift from the Lord and that I am blessed because my quiver is full?
As we examine our thoughts and our beliefs, we must choose to look at our lives and our families through the lens of scripture, right now, in this moment, in all things.
In times of doubt, it is best to realize our weaknesses and look to the Father for strength, praying earnestly that He graciously change our hearts and thoughts positively toward our children. It is only then that we are able to look at our children with joy and peace.
Yes, even when they are screaming at the top of their lungs, and I have not had my coffee or my sleep. By His grace and through His love, I cherish those moments the most.
Love Always,
Tamika
