We often told our children we want them to be their own person… that we don’t want them to be like anyone else.
But as I was perusing the people of the Bible, I realized that there were some amazing characteristics in some amazing characters of Sacred Text who I really want my sons to be like.
So, for the past year or so, I’ve been praying this prayer.
“Lord, make my sons…
- Humble like Moses
- Courageous like Deborah
- Brave like Joshua
- Encouraging like Barnabas
- Zealous like Peter
- Bold like Paul
- Dedicated like David
- Yielded like Mary
- Determined like Nehemiah
- Faithful like Abraham
And I can think of so many other biblical giants whom I pray my sons will emulate.
Don’t get me wrong…I want them to be who God created them to be. But I also want to see some of the qualities of these men and women of God birthed in the hearts and lives of my sons. And most of all… I want them to be like Jesus.
WHO DO YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO BE LIKE?
