“MOM!” it felt like the hundredth time I heard my name hollered in the fifteen minutes my kids had been awake.
This is Sunday. It is the Lord’s DAY! WHY is everything so hard? My mind churned as frustration pulsed into my shoulders and head.
“Help me Jesus,” I pleaded as I heard my name again.
Some Sundays are just difficult. So here are a few ways to help get you ready for Sunday mornings so you can make it to church without yelling.
- Plan ahead. Have everyone set out outfits the night before. That means you too…Get jewelry out, iron things (if you are the ironing type). Find socks and shoes. Also check the weather and make sure you know where coats, jackets, umbrellas are if you may need them.
- Go to bed. I realize that Saturday nights we cannot always control what must be done, but when we get a good night’s sleep and when our kids sleep mornings are easier.
- Wake up. So I am the queen of snooze buttons. I love to squeeze in a few more minutes of sleep. But it is not wise on Sunday mornings to sleep in so late that you have to rush to get yourself and everyone else ready. So plan your time wisely, set your alarm, and get your rear out of bed.
- Make time for God. Spend time in the Word or in prayer. It is best if I spend some time both right before I go to sleep at night and first thing in the morning. I can’t say I am super successful in doing that, but when I do the daily stresses of life are easier to handle because I am living in God’s power, not my own.
- Make Church a priority. God intends for His people to live in community with one another (Hebrews 10:24-15). There is something special that happens when you are a committed member of a local body of believers. When you are not there the body suffers. So make the church a priority. If you don’t have a church ask God to direct you to the place where you can serve and grow.
Yes Sundays can be a huge battle, but let’s work to make 2016 the year we stay engaged in the Body of Christ. For it is there that “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)
