5 Simple Ways to Strengthen Your Family Ties

Spread the love
No offense Peyton, but I loved watching the Broncos the year Tim Tebow was the quarter back. You never knew what was going to happen. The follow up interviews were almost as good. Even though the reporters wanted to focus on Tim, he kept his focus on the team and God.

I liked that.

When I lead my parenting classes, one of the things we talk about is family unity, being a like a team, having the same main focus while appreciating each others gifts.

I don’t want to run a boarding house or a taxi service where there is no connection and people just do their own thing.

But honestly, as the kids get older, it can feel like that.

I’ve realized, to be on the same home team, we need to commit to these 5 things.

1. Interact with kindness. Kindness draws people together.  Speaking  kind words and doing considerate actions.

2. Play together. Enjoying each other’s company, hanging out, laughing- all build family unity. I want my kids to look back on their years of growing up and think, “Yah, I loved being a kid. We had fun!”

3. Work together. Maybe not as fun as the playing together but it still builds the family bonds. The joking and commonly shared complaints that working can bring, create good memories too.

4. Celebrate together. Shared  memories, celebrations, and family gatherings tighten the family ties.

5. Pray together (or as in Bronco Territory a few years ago we  would say Tebow)  Pray together and pray for each other.

The holidays are right around the corner. Before it is time to carve the pumpkin, be sure to carve out time to play and  have fun with your kids. Include both your little and older kiddos in helping with  all the festivities. And while all this occurring, even during the holiday stress… be kind.

If you think about it, these five things are really simple to do. They don’t cost much yet the return is priceless.  So join me in implementing these things to intentionally strengthen your family ties and build a strong family team.

And for the record,  I’m still a Broncos fan but I do miss seeing Tim tebowing…..
