Happy Mom coverGiveaway:  31 Days to Becoming a Happy Mom

Once a week, I have an appointment to exercise. You don’t want to overdo a good thing right? I go to an indoor cycling class run out of a trainer’s garage in my neighborhood. One morning I walked back home and the garage door into my house was locked.  I didn’t have the key. I didn’t have my phone. My preschooler Lucy was with me, riding her bike with training wheels. And I was on my period.

What an inconvenience! I was so mad at my husband James for locking that door. Lucy and I began walking to my parent’s house which is about 10 minutes away…uphill. As I huffed and pushed Lucy’s bike up to grandma’s house, the Holy Spirit nudged me and I had this conversation in my mind: Why should you be mad at James? He didn’t lock the door to keep you out. He thought you had the key. Next time remember your keys!

I could have called James on the phone (when I finally got home and had my phone) to unload my grief on him. But I realized my inconvenient situation was squarely my own fault.

Sometimes we just have to own our stuff.

You know what friends? If we can stop blaming others or circumstances for our trouble, it frees us up to do something about it. Take responsibility for your own actions.  Hit the reset button when necessary.  Guess what? You hold the key to positive change. Not your children. Not your husband. Not your boss. Not your mother-in-law. You.

In my book 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Mom, you’ll learn five keys to help you enjoy being a mother again. This isn’t about being happy years from now when you’re children are grown and all settled. In the middle of your mom craziness right now, you can have joy. Here’s a little video to put a smile of your face (watch for Lucy’s crazy porcupine baby hair toward the end):

If you can’t view the video in your feeder, please click this link.

We’re giving away a copy of 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Mom. All you have to do is take responsibility to leave a comment. Easy enough! Leave a comment about the level of craziness in your home:  low, medium, high, or sky high?
