This is the true story of a young mommy.
When she was just a little girl, God placed a tiny spark in her heart. As she grew, He fanned the flames.
One day, she fell in love. She got married and had beautiful children. The flame waxed and waned as she changed diapers, went to storytimes, made macaroni and cheese, watched Little League games and logged countless miles in her messy minivan.
At times, she thought the flame had burned out. Buried under piles of laundry and sinks-full of dirty dishes.
But then, suddenly, something would reignite the spark. And she could feel the flame begin to flicker once again.
She dreamed of the day when it would grow into a raging fire. The wait sometimes seemed endless.
Over the years, she would pour her heart out in her journals:
“Someday when I’m ready, I pray you’ll use my writing talent to do something for You that brings You glory and draws others closer to You. What a privilege and honor that would be! Give me a heart that is humble and seeks to do that for all the right reasons.”
“When it is Your time, Lord, use me — use my writing and the lessons and wisdom you have given me to bring You glory. Bring the right words to mind so that I can adequately and effectively express the miracles You have performed in my life — they defy any words!”
As she waited, He taught her lessons. Guided her through hardships. Grew compassion, wisdom and empathy inside her heart. Used her children to grow her character.
He gave her a story to tell.
And when the time was right, he poured gasoline on the spark. The fire built and grew, just like she always dreamed.
Mamas, do you have a dream in your heart? Do you feel like you will never have the time or energy to pursue? This once-young mommy has been there. And I’m telling you there is hope! The wait may seem endless, but it is not futile.
One day the diapers will disappear and the minivan is traded in for a sporty coupe (I am still waiting for that!). During the wait, He’s giving you experiences, allowing difficulties and giving you the tools you need to run after your dream with abandon. And when the time is right, He will often move more boldly and miraculously than you ever thought possible.
So what can you do to keep the flame alive while you wait for your dream to come? Watch this video for three things that helped me grow my dreams as I waited:

Dreams really do come true … and they are worth the wait. I promise.
I talk more about pursuing our dreams as moms, as well as becoming the unique mom God created you to be in my first co-authored book, Mothering From Scratch: Finding the Best Parenting Style for You and Your Family (Bethany House, 2015).
It’s available on Amazon, as well as in bookstores nationwide.
“I was deeply touched by this book and especially loved that it didn’t feel AT ALL condescending, as so many parenting books tend to be, but instead offered practical solutions and a whole lot of grace. I highly recommend it!”~ Ruth Soukup, New York Times Best Selling Author of Living Well, Spending Less: 12 Secrets of the Good Life
