Do you read to your children?
When my children were young, I loved curling up against the headboard with my boys in my arms and a book in my hand as I read a story to them before I tucked them in. I LOVED story time – and so did they… even when they were older.
But to be honest, with dishes to do, baths to take, teeth to brush, homework to finish and laundry to fold, I often struggled to settle down long enough to read to my children.
Maybe you feel the same way too.
Always something to do and never enough time in the day to get it all done.
But as a mom who has been where you are, I want to encourage you to let the dishes wait, to put down the cell phone and close the lid of your laptop.
This is a snapshot of treasured time you’ll never be able to recapture.
It will only take about 15 minutes of your time, so let me share with you 5 reasons why you should make time to read to your children.
1. Because reading stimulates their imaginations much better than television or video games.
2. Because reading to them instills an appreciation of and desire to read as well as expands their knowledge and vocabulary.
3. Because readers are leaders and you are nurturing the leader in them every time you open a book with them.
4. Because reading together nurtures your relationship with each other and is a great time for bonding.
5. Because every time you sit still long enough to read to them, you are not only whispering to their hearts how important they are to you, but you are tucking precious memories in their minds that they will never forget.
