worship trust Him

Help, my child won’t worship!

Spread the love

Every mom who worships Jesus prays her kids will worship Him too. But sometimes it doesn’t work like that. Sanctuaries are often places where a mom begs God to draw her kids close, while she stands next to one who won’t sing, clap, or engage. What’s a worshipful mom to do?

Do what you’re already doing: worship

You are worshiping Jesus. Nothing a mom does impacts her child’s heart like her own example. We definitely can’t pass on something to our kids that we do not possess ourselves. During mom-seasons when our kids present their greatest challenges, we desperately need more Jesus. We need to nestle in closer, hold on tighter, and trust down deeper when we’re in a trench with a child. Oh hopeful mama, worship the God who is all to you.

worship trust Him

Say what you’re already saying: pray

You are begging God to draw your kid close. Keep on praying, because He is still listening. God hears the cry of a mother’s heart, and if you really believe worship and prayer lead to real life, live it out in this hard thing. Trust Him to teach your kids to trust Him.

Ask God to reveal any issues to you that you need to be aware of. Your child may feel self-conscious, might struggle to respect a leader, may harbor secret sin, or might be wrestling with spiritual doubt. The absence of external worship norms may actually provide valuable insight into your youngster’s development.

Look at the heart, but see your limitations

True worship comes from the heart. “The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him,” (John 4:23b).

God wants to be worshiped in spirit and in truth. You want your child to be with you among the worshipers. God wants your child’s heart more than you do. While you cannot see or know your child’s heart, God can and does. He knows how they are growing and why they may be hardened. He knows it would make you feel better to see your child or teen smile and sing and clap and bow and lift their hands, but He knows what your loved one needs more than outward compliance is inner cooperation. He is at work in and for the heart of your child.

Neither you nor God long for a child who simply goes through the motions to make you happy … on the outside. Do the work of personal worship and prayer that will impact your child’s heart.
