Brown Like Mom. Cream Like Dad.

Spread the love

“What color will you raise your children?” is a question that I’ve heard before.

I didn’t know that there was such a thing as raising children a certain color.

With that question, I knew full well that they were wondering how much of each culture we’ll embrace and teach to our children.

I’m brown. My husband is cream…or in more common terms, I’m black. He’s white.

My upbringing wasn’t about skin color.

It was about love, respect, honor and serving God.

My husband’s upbringing wasn’t about skin color.

It was about love, respect, honor and serving God.

See the similarities? So, why would we raise our children differently?

We’ve been told countless times that our children will have a difficult time growing up in this world because of their skin tone and background.

We haven’t found that to be true!

Not.One.Bit.

Our children have been blessed in their surroundings and by everyone they meet.

Our story isn’t one of culture shock, keen awareness, hatred, or mistreatment.

Its a story of acceptance, love and fellowship.

I want to open discussion with you.

Let’s get conversation going!

What is your family’s story? Do you, as a mixed-race or multi-ethnic, family experience the opposite of what we have?
