Crystal clear water hems me in tighter than a warm blanket. Bubbles dance off my fingers as they glide through the singing water. All muscles are hard at work but I’m completely at rest.
Some call swimming exercise. I prefer to call it the most relaxing part of my day.
I am not a good swimmer. I survived lessons as a scared child… but never learned anything fancy.
Instead of springing up when our rooster crows to head for the gym, most mornings I justify pulling the warm covers back over my sleepy head.
Nevertheless, the days I grudgingly shuffle out the door moaning and groaning I find myself repaid with:
- prayer uninterrupted while surrounded by teeny bubbles singing
- tension erased as I leave the gym and head toward a new day
- energy to serve the endless needs of my family
- self confidence knowing I’m a good steward of the one body I am entrusted to
- quiet time to think and reflect
- deep restful sleep instead of my usual anxious tossing and turning
- time to stop, pray and encourage a mom in the locker room who’s hit rock bottom
What about you? Have you found a way to exercise and relax at the same time? How does it help you parent?
Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. 3 John 1:2 NLT
