I opened my weary eyes and saw him fumbling in the darkness.
“I’ll be back for breakfast,” he whispered. He loves spending mealtimes together…he, the kids, and I.
He leaned over the bed to kiss me. “I love you, you are beautiful.” The smeared make-up I didn’t wash off my face the night before and bedhead, he didn’t see it.
He drives a nearly 10-year-old vehicle, littered with Sunday school papers, candy wrappers, and toys.
He throws a football with our boy in freezing weather and takes our girls on dates.
He washes dishes and handles finances. He listens to me, supports me, and encourages me.
He walks with me through life’s storms. He rejoices with me in life’s triumphs.
And every day his love is stated strong – not in some grand romantic gesture. Instead his love is steady in the throws of illness, dealing with anxious dogs, and guiding rebellious hearts of children.
His love is whispered every day in mundane washing of dishes and the glorious daily desire to grow-old with me.
Daily love. It may not sound glamorous, but it is glorious.
