Ephesians 3:16-18 “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…”
“…Keep her healthy, safe, strong, and in Your tender-loving care…” I prayed because I want my children healthy and safe.
But sometimes I forget that more than anything I want them to know God and His love. I want them to be transformed by God’s amazing grace and love. I want their minds to be renewed by God’s Word. And sometimes I forget to prioritize.
Spiritual health and depth is more valuable than physical wellness and wholeness.
My husband and I are to be living examples of spiritual health and depth to our children. And we mess up…often. We are thankful for grace when we fail.
Spiritual depth means I must remember that I am a lame beggar whom the Lord has healed. I walk in spiritual wholeness because Jesus healed me through His shed blood on the cross. And now as I walk, run, and sometimes stumble through life, I offer myself in humble gratitude to serve God.
Spiritual depth means asking and extending forgiveness. It means disciplining in love even when my anger flares. It means not getting hung up on whether we (myself, my kids, my spouse, my parents, my friends) are physically healthy, but aiming for spiritual health.
It means finding the light (the one speck of light and hope) in the darkness that seeps into our bones. And the amazing truth is I don’t have to find the light. God in His grace is the light and He promises to be near the brokenhearted. Sometimes I don’t feel His presence, but when I fix my eyes on Him I change. I see the light and find that God’s Spirit helps me trust God in the deep darkness. And in the dark I don begin to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
And so I pray keep us safe and healthy, but O God please make us holy.
