“We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7)
Two compassionate dark eyes squinted while looking for a particular clay jar in a large storage room. This man knew each of the shelved vessels intimately from His time bent over His potter’s wheel. He skimmed the shelves looking for one that refused to attract attention to itself. He hoped to find a large vessel, a bit broken, and covered with just enough dust to be overlooked and unnoticed by the untrained eye.
Then He saw it! A chipped, dusty, ordinary vessel, one He lovingly fashioned from common clay, soon to be filled up to the brim with His power-filled treasure. This is exactly what he was looking for!
How long is it going to take for us to realize God longs to use us, smack-dab in our imperfection? Bumped, a bit broken and bruised, less than perfect for sure, but God chooses us to house His Holy Spirit and display his perfect plan of redemption.
The more chipped and ordinary our lives are, the more God’s power is proven to come from God and not us. Because we are all a cracked mess, He gets all of the glory.
It is time we stop the lies of the enemy, which constantly tell us we are of no use to God because of our imperfections.
Instead, grasp the truth that He longs to display his power in the weakest, most chipped and dusty vessels.
And why is He looking for the ordinary to do His extraordinary work? So we can’t say, “My own power has delivered me” and to know that everything good that flows from my life is not my own but comes from God.
Our creator says to us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9.)
Are you an ordinary mom whose past is chipped and less than perfect? Do you long to delight in God above all things, but hesitate due to feelings of inadequacy? If so, be encouraged!
You are exactly what our Master is looking for to display His priceless work.
“God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things that which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
