“There always seems to be something to fight for.”
“We need to have the right [plan] and resources because victories don’t come by accident.”
Did you see the movie, “War Room”? Miss Clara was on “target” when she said we need to have the right resources. Lately my eyes have been returning to 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; where we’re warned that “though we walk in the flesh, we do not WAR according to the flesh.” In other words, whether we’re in the midst of dealing with an unruly child, battling cancer, or struggling with marital issues, we need more than our wit. We need to acknowledge that we have an enemy (the devil) who wants to discourage us and lead us into temptation. He’s come to steal, kill, and destroy. He’s a liar. If we’re not using the weapons of warfare, destroying speculations, and taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ; we can be deceived. Prayer is where we do battle. It’s not only where we pour out our hearts to the Lord, it’s also where the Captain of the Hosts gives us strategies for how to cope and proceed through our day.
How do we create a War Room; a focused place where we do battle?
1. Set Up a Prayer Journal
In the movie, Miss Clara cleaned out a closet and designated it as her War Room, where she prayed for family and friends. However, most of us don’t have an extra closet. Therefore, my prayer journal is my “closet;” my War Room; where I meet with God, pour out my heart, and record His strategies.
2. Determine the Key Territories God Has Entrusted to You
There’s no way any one of us can pray for every one of us and for every issue in the world. But, God has entrusted to us our families, local body of believers, unsaved friends, work, and ministries. We can strategically pray for those. I use a column format, where I put the names of those for whom I regularly pray across the top. (PTL stands for “praise the Lord” – answered prayers.)
3. Put Your Prayers, Praises, and Bible Verses On Paper
Miss Clara wrote Bible verses and prayers and taped them on the walls of her closet. I write verses and prayers on the pages of Prayers of My Heart. What is the value of taking pen in hand and writing out our prayers and Scriptures? When we take our pen in our hand and write out the words, the words sink deeper into our souls. They become a part of us. We internalize them. Our eyes read the words, our spirit prays them, and our hand records the truths and prayers on our hearts.

TRY IT:
1. Read Psalm 119:49, “Remember the word to Your servant, in which You have made me hope.”
2. Now, profess in prayer to the Lord, “You have made me hope” as you think of an area in which you have felt hopeless. Meditate on the fact that because of God, you HAVE HOPE.
3. Go a step further. Write the words, “You have made me hope;” as you meditate on them.
Your prayer of praise, “You have made me hope,” is sealed more firmly in your inner man than if had you skimmed the verse and not written your prayer. You’re a stronger, more fortified prayer warrior. If Satan were to come at you and whisper, “It’s hopeless,” you’d be armed to destroy that speculation. You could take Satan’s lie “captive” to the obedience of Christ; professing the truth to dispel the lie.
